I would like to invite you to take
EE467/EE579 in Spring 2015. We'll learn how antennas work with some
basic analysis, and use some computational tools to both analyze and
design antennas.
Ata the end of the course
you'll have a good understanding of the basic types of antennas, their
performance metrics, and some of the special jargon associated with
antennas. You'll also learn how to make some basic measurements of
antenna performance with a vector network analyzer (VNA).
You'll
also design, build, and test an antenna for the class project. I'll
offer a pair of projects that you can choose from, both spacecraft
related.
(1) a ground station antenna for Space-X's proposed satellite based internet service (+)
(2)
an antenna to be carried on board high power rockets for telemetry. [
There will be an opportunity to fly this antenna next October. ]
This class will meet 3:30--5:20 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I have been contacted by engineers from SpaceX's new Seattle office;
they're interested in the experience you'll acquire in EE467, and
they're going to do a *lot* of hiring in the next few years.
