Part-Time Position with Burn Manufacturing

Our mission at BURN Manufacturing is to save lives and forests in the developing world through the design and dissemination of clean burning cookstoves.  We currently have an opening for a 6-12 months Electrical Engineering Fellowship at BURN Manufacturing on Vashon Island, WA (outside of Seattle) starting approximately, January 5.  BURN Manufacturing will provide housing and a small stipend.

The position will lead the electrical system design for a fan powered cookstove, and provide electrical engineering support to the Burn cookstove factory in Kenya.

Desired Experience

·         Bachelor Science in Electrical Engineering
·         Experience with electrical circuit  design
·         Experience with building & prototyping electrical/electronic circuits.
·         Experience with batteries, small motors, solar panels, charging systems
·         Experience with basic factory power systems.

Faculty Positions at UC Santa Barbara

UCSB has two tenure-track assistant professor positions open, one in Integrated Electronics and Photonics and one in Control Systems.

2015 Landolt Distinguished Graduate Mentor Award | deadline = 1/13/15

We have an great opportunity to nominate a faculty member who has served as an exemplary mentor to grad students for the 2015 Landolt Distinguis​hed Graduate Mentor Award. Penn State’s Toshiba-Westinghouse Undergraduate Fellows Program

Spend Your Summer at Penn State!

Penn State is pleased to announce the Toshiba-Westinghouse Undergraduate Fellows Program! This ten-week paid summer program on Penn State’s campus provides an unparalleled opportunity for hands-on research and professional development in the nuclear field at one of the nation’s top research universities.

Students will work with a faculty mentor to complete a research project and will utilize Penn State’s state-of-the-art nuclear research facilities. One facility of particular distinction is the Breazeale Nuclear Reactor, located at the Radiation Science and Engineering Center (RSEC).

Features of the RSEC include:
• Triga Mark III Reactor — 1 mega-watt
• Gamma Radiation Laboratory
• GPU Basic Principles Reactor Simulator
• Low-level Radiation Monitoring Laboratory
• Fast Neutron Irradiation Capability

In addition to the research opportunities, students will participate in technical seminars and professional development workshops on topics like scientific communication and grad school admissions.

Site visits will be organized to sites relevant to nuclear power, including a tour of Three Mile Island and Westinghouse Electric Company in Pittsburgh. Students can also take part in social activities on campus. Penn State is a great place to be in the summer!

U.S. citizens or permanent residents who have completed their sophomore year of study with a 3.00 GPA or higher and who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, physics or chemistry with an interest in the nuclear field are eligible to apply.

NCAR 2015 Summer Undergraduate Projects in Engineering Research (SUPER) Internship

The Earth Observing Laboratory (EOL) at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in beautiful Boulder, Colorado, announces its 2015 Summer Undergraduate Projects in Engineering Research (SUPER) program.

The Earth Observing Laboratory (EOL) is committed to building a professional STEM workforce for future generations, and offers a unique experience with foundations in observational science and engineering to undergraduate students. EOL hires undergraduate engineering students who would like to gain skills and knowledge in the atmospheric sciences during the summer months for the Summer Undergraduate Program in Engineering Research (SUPER). SUPER interns work hand-in-hand with NCAR/EOL engineers and technicians on atmospheric observing systems and developments, including radar, lidar, and sounding systems and associated software developments. Interns may spend part of the summer participating in a field deployment, operating and supporting one or more EOL observing systems.

Gaining Practical Experience
While working at EOL, interns help develop new instrumentation and improve our existing suite of NSF/NCAR Lower Atmospheric Observing Facilities. Some internships offer the opportunity to gain practical field experience by operating and maintaining equipment during an NSF-funded research project.

Interns are encouraged to develop their own engineering solutions as they work with and are mentored by professional, experienced engineers and technicians. During the internship, interns have access to a large number of resources such as sophisticated testing and calibration instruments, technical documentation, and state-of-the art fabrication capabilities.

Who Should Apply?
EOL’s mission primarily requires electrical, mechanical, optical, and computer engineering skills but we encourage all engineering students to apply. Undergraduate students enrolled at accredited U.S. colleges and universities are eligible to apply for SUPER internships. However, note that some projects may require that the intern be (a) a U.S. citizen; (b) lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States; or (c) a protected individual as defined by 8 USC1324b(a)(3). EOL provides an hourly wage as well as travel support and housing while in Boulder and expenses in the field.
