WORKSHOP ANNOUNCEMENT: Guidelines For Creating a Successful Graduate School Application -- Wed, October 8, 1:30- 4:00pm

Hello! For those of you who do not know me, my name is Dorian Varga and I am the Senior Academic Counselor for the University of Washington Department of Bioengineering. I help coordinate the graduate admissions process for the department and am entering my sixth year in this role. I am offering  a workshop titled, “Guidelines for Creating a Successful Graduate School Application.” This workshop will use the Bioengineering PhD/MS application as an example, but general application advice will also be provided. Anyone who is applying to any graduate school is encouraged to attend!

When: Wednesday, October 8, 2014, from 1:30 – 4:00pm
Where: Ethnic Culture Center
Who: Anyone applying to graduate school
** Light snacks/refreshments will be served***

My workshop will focus on the following concepts: application timeline, the personal statement, references, transcripts, background, what the committee is looking for, and so on.
I emphasize that this is a workshop.  There will be a brief PowerPoint presentation, but the focus of this event will be a HANDS-ON experience: reviewing applications using REAL examples, discussing your feedback about the applications with your peers, and hearing committee feedback so that you can gauge your level of understanding of an admissions committee’s expectations. Please bring a colorful pen to write with!

In order to ensure that enough food/materials are available, and for room details, please R.S.V.P. to the following catalyst by 11:00 p.m. on Monday, October 6: https://catalyst.uw.edu/webq/survey/dst/248478
