Women’s Hackathon during the Grace Hopper Conference sponsored by
Microsoft Research, National Center for Women & Information
Technology, Association for Computing Machinery Committee on Women,
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Women in Engineering,
Microsoft Imagine Cup, and Skype!
Become
the producers of tomorrow’s technology solutions. Help us inspire and
support women to start the next Microsoft, Facebook,
or Google. Join us October 11, 2014 from 9am – 10pm at the 4th floor of MaryGates Hall!
During the presentation portion of the hackathon, we will be walking to
Bloedel Hall to check out the NEW iSchool only classroom!

This
event is open to everyone of all skill levels: those who haven’t
programmed at all, women who have done some programming, expert
programmers out there, designers and even product managers. It will be a
great day to learn, invent, and create the future. There is a catch
though! If you’re a male student and you are interested in participating in the hackathon,
you MUST bring a female student (who will also participate
in the hackathon). This is to ensure we can keep the gender ratios
appropriate to the mission of this hackathon. Also, only female students are eligible to win
prizes.
All
participants will receive Microsoft prizes and winning teams will get
Skype minutes and have their pitch video published on the
Microsoft Research webpage. In addition, if the winning application is a
Microsoft solution it will be published in the Microsoft Store.
But
not only that, create a resume worthy application, make new friends,
network with the mentors and have fun! Remember, hackathons
do not only focus on the coding aspects of creating an application. To
create a successful application, a group must be able to design it well
and include ideal features for users. So no matter what skills you have
or are interested in, come join us!
