JOB DESCRIPTION
The Engineer Entry, I is responsible for the review, approval and management of work requests received by the Technical Operations group to support System, Distribution, and Generation Dispatchers to control production, transmission, and delivery of power. Supports the Control Integrations Team, and coordinates the specification and installation of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, as well as other remote control projects that interface with Operations. Provides engineering support to the Control Technicians; and coordinates automation work with other utilities. Supports development and operation of a secure Enterprise network. Helps develop and support processes that enable compliance with Regulatory requirements. Supports compliance efforts related to NERC Reliability standards, specifically CIP.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Knowledge of:
Electrical engineering principles and practices; power systems practices and operation; administration and operation of Enterprise networks; application of communications systems as related to SCADA system design; and current methods, equipment, and techniques for implementation of automation efforts.
Skills in:
Organization and management, as well as process mapping, design and control standards. Prefer skills in Networking and/or Security, SharePoint, SQL and Excel.
Ability to:
Read, understand, and prepare engineering drawings; perform concise analysis and utilize good judgment to compare alternatives; prepare clear and comprehensive oral and written reports; perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy; establish and maintain effective working relationships; work independently as well as in teams; be self-motivated; and effectively respond to changes required by new regulations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
  • Entry - Must be currently enrolled in an ABET accredited program majoring in engineering with a graduation date of May 2014, electrical preferred.
  • Level I – Bachelor of Science in electrical, computer systems or communication engineering.
Experience:
Coursework/experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Power System Analysis
  • Embedded and Port Computing Systems
  • Information Systems and Networking
  • Programming
Licenses & Certifications
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • Some travel is required within the IPC service area with occasional overnight stays.
