Reports to:  Engineering Manager
Simpson is seeking a Project Electrical Engineer – College, with the ability to learn, adapt and apply a wide range of electrical and control engineering practices on capital projects throughout the Mill operations.  Incumbent will work under the direction of a mentor (senior electrical project engineer) and be asked to perform a wide variety of tasks but will report directly to the engineering manager.

Electrical Project Engineer Job Duties:
·         Manage assigned approved capital and major maintenance projects including under $250K:
o    developing scope based on goals or intent of project
o    estimating project costs and projected RIO
o    developing and adhering to project schedule
o    writing request for funding, work scopes, specifications and requisitions
o    developing and approving drawings (both generated in house and submitted by vendors)
o    Use the mill standard to design systems and equipment installations
o    Hire, manage and coordinate activities of contractors and consultants ensuring adherence to work scopes, schedules and quoted contract costs
o    Continuously monitor project schedule and costs resolving issues and problems that could adversely affect project outcome
o    Reporting and communicating project status to management and operational department leads
o    Identify spare parts required and complete all punch list items in a timely manner
o    Provide project close out including financial, filing of documentation, training of mill personnel and establishing new equipment files.

·         Estimate future projects including costs, scope and schedule from class 50 to class 10 level
·         Actively research and present new opportunities to improve safety, environmental compliance, efficiency and productivity and reduce costs.
·         Evaluate large industrial plant electrical distribution systems using Easy Power modeling software.
·         Provide for the safety, reliability and legal compliance of equipment, facilities and process systems by ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, specifications, and regulations. 
·         Provide troubleshooting assistance to operational and maintenance department when requested including updating, upgrading and/or modifying existing electrical control and power distribution systems.
·         Write and/or re-write program code and ladder logic based on process equipment and instrument functional descriptions.
·         Participate in maintenance 24 hr on-call duties throughout the year (potentially including holidays) and be available via phone to assist with mill upsets
·         Learn mill systems while looking for strategies to improve electrical system utilization and reliability and assist in developing, updating and maintaining mill design standards to stay current with new technologies
·         Maintain/update documentation including technical manuals and drawings for existing systems and new installations.
·         Assist other engineers both within and outside the department as requested.
·         Participate in core groups focused on specific mill issues, opportunities, and problems including conducting injury and/or equipment failure investigations.
·         Attend training and technical seminars
·         Complete other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skill, Ability and Education:
·         Knowledge of power distribution systems and equipment up to an including 110 KV

·         Knowledge of instrumentation, PLC Controls and DCS Controls for the following  specific control system platforms:
o    Honeywell TDC 3000, HW Experion, and HW Measurex
o    Allen Bradley PLC5, SLC5/05, RSLogix 5, 500 & 5000, Control Logix, RSView (FactoryTalk View) and associated Rockwell software and solutions
o    Bailey DCS utilizing Composer
o    GE DC 2000, Proficy and Cimplicity and TMEIC VFD’s
o    Data acquisition systems including Honeywell PHD and Capstone
·         Possess the ability to learn and apply electrical design principles to a wide variety of interests including AC and DC relay logic, PLC and DCS based control systems, Variable speed AC and DC drives, high voltage switching procedures, lighting, relays, soft starts, etc.
·         Assist in performing root cause analysis, collecting and interpreting process data and applying results by analyzing and summarizing information and trends to resolve systematic or reoccurring control issues.
·         Be an energetic self-starter, possessing a demonstrated sense of urgency and ability to research and present findings on new technology that meets business and regulatory requirements
·         Some experience with Power distribution and Easy Power modeling software as well as Electrical metering and electrical systems predictive maintenance testing procedures is desired.
·         Able to learn how to program PLC, DCS and HMI systems as well as perform PID Loop tuning and calibration of instrumentation for flow, pressure, temperature and level.
·         Proficient in the use of AutoCad for reading and comprehending blueprints, schematics, electrical drawings, and control one-line diagrams.

·         Knowledge on how to use and apply NEC, NEMA, IEC and UL standards
·         Proven leadership and interpersonal skills including strong written and verbal skills are required to effectively contribute and lead teams with diverse backgrounds including OEM’s, Contractors, Design Consultants, Mill Operations, and Mill Maintenance Personnel.
·         Some experience with estimating and implementing capital projects on time and within budget by controlling project costs by developing competitive bid packages, monitoring expenditures and administering contractor contracts.
·         0-5 year’s industrial electrical and/or controls experience required including design, implementation, commissioning and troubleshooting.
·         Desired qualifications also include a basic knowledge of:
o    Pulp and paper manufacturing process
o    Boiler combustion systems
o    Turbine generators control systems
o    Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
o    Good working knowledge of other engineering disciplines including civil, mechanical and environmental.   

·         Minimum of 2-year degree in either Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Controls or other related field from an accredited school.  BS degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
