Entry-level Position with Sea-Bird Electronics


Sea-Bird Electronics, Inc. is the largest manufacturer of marine instruments for measurement of salinity, temperature, pressure, dissolved oxygen, and related oceanographic variables. Major products include Conductivity/Temperature/Depth (CTD) profilers, multi-bottle in-situ water samplers, moored CT recorders, wave/tide recorders, dissolved oxygen sensors, and thermosalinographs (click here for a complete listing of all our products). Customers include research institutes, ocean observing programs, national and local government agencies, engineering firms, and navies throughout the world. We are adding to our growing team to support oceangraphic instrument development. This is a full-time, regular position.

An Electric Engineer-I, will apply knowledge of electrical engineering principles, with some supervision or guidance, to the design, redesign, test, modeling and use of various products, subassemblies, complex systems, and product platforms. Essential skills include: embedding firmware, assist with design of sensing systems, critical decision making, and problem solving and timeline development.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS
·         BS with a minimum of 3 years of directly relevant experience; MS with 1 year of relevant experience
·         Experience in a systems design / product development environment in which the candidate has had a role in taking designs from conception through production and shipment a plus

·         Experience in embedded-system C development. Experience with Ti MSP430 and ARM7TDMI architectures a plus.

·         Experience with schematic capture and circuit analysis using EDA tools such as OrCAD and SPICE

·         Demonstrated knowledge and skill in the following areas:
o   Strong verbal and written communication skills
o   Strong project and time management skills
o   Solid data analysis and reporting skills
